Top 6 Interesting Facts That You Should Know About Gemstones

Gemstones are the best presents of mother nature that increase the beauty of human beings and Earth. Instead, it is an enthralling world of jewelry and gems where they regulate people’s nature and have numerous health and astrological benefits.

Some of the gemstones are designed in the Earth’s womb under high temperature and pressure, while some are found from volcanic eruptions. Gemstones are differentiated not by color but by their features.

How to Purchase Gemstones?

While buying a gem, you should be careful of its refractive index and color. Some other characteristics that should be considered include hues, depth of the tone, and color saturation.

What is Hue?

Another term for the color of a gemstone is called hue. Don’t forget! Hues are more valued. For example, sapphires with a range of colors from violet-blue to velvety blue are highly precious.

A darker or less dark color is considered as less precious. There is a system for color grading; it comprises 31 ranges of colors from brown to red. The gradation consists of color such as greenish-blue to light yellowish-green in the mixture.

What is meant by Clarity and Tone of the Gemstone?

The tone plays a critical role in the gem pricing. Usually, the tone is the darkness or precision of the stone. It should be noted that the medium to the average-dark tone of Sapphire is more valued than anything extraordinarily dark or light in color.

Well! It is essential to notice here that all the high-priced stones have inclusions. The gems without any flaws are much costly and rare. In some situations, people demand gemstones having deficiencies due to their different textures.

The Cut is Essentially Important

As compared to diamonds, gems do not have a perfect cut for more brilliance. But well-cut stones are more in demand due to their color enhancements, fewer inclusions, color exposure, and brightness.

If properly cut, light is brilliantly reflected. If a minor flaw is there in the cut, all the light outflows, and the gem appears light in the shade. Likewise, a gemstone that is cut too profound seems dark because the light vanishes inside.

Why Size Matter?

The weight and size of the gem differ based on the densities. For example, one carat of ruby gem looks small than one carat of diamonds, and Rubies are dense than diamonds.

Thus, the carat mass of the gem is not an ideal way to know about the size. Else, you should look for the diameter of the stone from the topmost point.

How to Find Out the Quality of the Gemstone?

Before purchasing a gem, make sure that:

A gem is not exposed to any radiation, blanched, or treated. Many stones, including citrine, amethyst, ruby, sapphire, and aquamarine, are heated. It should be noted that the emeralds are dyes or treated routinely to hide their flaws.

The rubies you purchase are not full of lead – glass. It makes them appear more costly as compared to their actual appearance.

The gems are not synthetic; it does not essentially mean that they are not real. These stones are grown in the laboratory by scientists, and they are of the best quality than the natural stones as they have no Earth inclusions. But don’t forget, they are not rare similar to natural or real gemstones. You can check with the help of a magnifying glass if any inclusions are present or not.

Be careful of the stone’s glass. They are present in plenty nowadays. Check with a telescopic glass. You cannot find any fizzes or scrape in the gem. It is a method to make sure that it is actually glass.

Check the gem in light. If it appears similar to a bulb, it is not real. Light cannot go over them, similar to a natural stone by which the stone’s interior can be observed.

If you are in doubt, you can put the gemstone in your mouth. It will get hot if it is glass. Consider the aspects mentioned above before purchasing a gem, and you can sidestep being cheated. For more content, don’t forget to visit our website.
