Granite vs. Solid Surface

by | Mar 17, 2017 |

Common solid surface brands include Corian and Hi-Macs. They are made of acrylic and come in many colors. One of the biggest advantages of these countertops are the ability to use integrated seamless sinks and backsplashes. Granite countertops are generally fabricated from 1 ¼-inch thick slabs and cannot be melted to attach a fully integrated sink. Attaching an undermount sink to granite countertops is a common alternative. Solid Surface countertops can be refinished by a professional if they become stained or scratched. That said, it is fairly easy to stain, scratch and melt these countertops in a kitchen setting. Cutting boards and trivets should always be used.  Prices range but will be similar to a mid-range granite countertop.
